What is WordCamp Anyway?

WordCamp is a conference type of event that focuses squarely on everything WordPress. Everyone from casual end users all the way up to core developers show up these events. These events are usually highlighted by speeches or keynotes by various people.

The official annual WordCamp (http://central.wordcamp.org) was held on May 30, 2009 in San Fransisco. Regional WordCamps are happening around the world in places like Cape Town, Manila, Beijing, Portland, New York City, Melbourne, Toronto, Philippines, and Washington D.C.

WordCamp Indonesia 2010 held on January 30, 2010 in Gunadarma University with more great speakers like Beau Lebens (Code Wrangler, Automattic), Risman Adnan (Senior Developer Advisor Microsoft Asia HQ), and other great speakers like Hans Zaunere, I Made Wiryana, Setyagus Sucipto who has experiences in Content Managment System (CMS) and WordPress e-commerce, and Idris Khanafi who represent of Indonesian MySQL community.

Just for refresh, this WordCamp is very important for WordPress development. Jakarta as place of the camp is the highest visitor accessing WordPress.com whole world in 2009 which followed by Sao Paulo and London.

Having 250+ really smart people in one space is too good an opportunity to pass up.

Quick Stats:

WordCamp Indonesia was the second WordCamp in Indonesia, first one on January 17-18 2009
264 attendees + speakers and media filled the tent.
3 attendees coming from Shah Alam/Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
10 speakers, 1 track, 1 day.
10% newbies, 14% bloggers/endusers, 70% developers, 6% others
Each speaker had 30-45 minutes to talk about various topics.

This event was organized in three month. Having sponsors also helped covering the cost. Many of past WordCamp Indonesia volunteers helped out preparing and as staff on the day.
